Classroom Policies:

Behavior
In order for us to do our best learning, students are expected to come to class prepared to learn and to be respectful to their classmates.

Our class rules are based off the Mustang Mindset:
1. Be Kind
2. Be Respectful
3. Be Responsible

Behavior will be tracked in class on a sign in log. Students who make great choices in class will be rewarded with Friday Free Time. In order for students to participate, they must have all work turned in. However, students who have lost their privileges will have to complete unfinished work or reflect on their behavior. On Friday, all students will complete a Mustang Mindset Reflection on their week. Students who had more than one sign in will be required to get a family member's signature on the card before returning it on Monday.

Homework
On the agenda in your child's homework folder, you will also find your child's homework chart. This is where your child will keep track of their nightly assignments. We also put major assignments, like long term projects, on our class calendar on Bloomz. Students are required to read 20 minutes every night in addition to their 30-60 minutes of homework. You can expect to have math homework on Tuesday and Thursday nights. Occasionally we will not send Math homework home when we are introducing concepts or testing. On those nights, students may use online resources like Reflex Math or Sumdog to review or learn new skills. Students also need to practice their math facts nightly to gain proficiency. Also, content area homework will be assigned as needed to extend a topic or learning we are doing in the classroom. In most situations, this type of assignment will consist of students interacting with content through Google Classroom.

Birthday Celebrations
When it is your child's birthday, we will recognize it in class with a Jedi Glow Stick and card. Due to district policy, students are not permitted to bring in treats or snacks for these celebrations. Birthday invitations may only be passed out in class if all students are invited. You can use Bloomz to send a direct message to families you would like to invite. Otherwise, please mail your invitations outside of school. The school directory will have the information you need for addresses and phone numbers.

Snacks
Unfortunately I have a severe nut, citrus, and soy allergy and I also know we have several students who also have food allergies. In order for our classroom to be a healthy and safe place for all learners, please send in snacks from only the approved list. Snacks should be healthy, no potato chips, candy or deserts. District policy also prevents students from bringing in home baked goods for snack time. We eat our snack after Math during our read aloud time.

Absences
We all get sick from time to time. If your child will be missing school due to illness, please call in your child's absence to the front office. We will work with your child to makeup work that is missed. Please try to limit absences for appointments and personal vacations. Much of the learning your child will be experiencing will be hands-on and interactive and won't be able to be made up. It is the teacher's discretion to assign makeup work for personal days. Students may need to stay in at recess to catch up on missed work.

Volunteering
Volunteers will be recruited as needed for special events, projects, and assistance in the classroom. There will be a sign up link in Bloomz before each event. We ask that families only sign up for one classroom event and one field trip event to give all parents the opportunity to participate. We appreciate the support you provide us and your willingness to come into the classroom.

Mystery Reader
As a mystery reader, you will be invited to choose a book to share during a read aloud time in our classroom. A few weeks before your scheduled day and time, you will receive an email with instructions about the process. A sign up list will be available following our open house.
